Happy New Year to everyone and I hope like me you have a great year to look forward to. There have been some trials to getting the new location open, so I apologize again for any confusion or inconvenience this has caused. The new location should be open within the next week or two. Just waiting for some licensing and to arrange some final inspections and we'll be opening the new doors!
If you are just now thinking about getting a Bikini Service like the Brazilian or the Bikini Full this is actually the perfect time to get started - now or within the next few months. Legs, arms or underams are also good to start now while we are still wearing pants and long sleeves while you adjust to getting waxed on a regular basis. If you're planning to be out swimming or in the sun a lot this summer and want to be clean and smooth its good to get started pretty soon, so you have achieved the best results. Waxing does not give instantly smooth and hair free skin which can be a big disappointment to some if you are planning a big trip or honeymoon and you get your first Brazilian right before you go. The problem is not with the waxer's product or technique when you have less than perfect results or if on day 6 or 7 of your trip you have hair breaking through. This is the fault of nature. There is no waxing or hair removal technique that can get to every single hair in one appointment. Run, don't walk from anyone who makes you that guarantee - especially with lasering - also a good procedure if done correctly and with good equipment. Hair removal is a process and requires a little bit of patience. Don't get me wrong - you should expect and receive great results from your first wax, but the best result will take 3 to 5 appointments. Your hair grows in 3 cycles, so it will not all be grown outside of the skin on your first visit and so your hair removal tech can't touch the ones that are under the skin. There are the technical terms of anogen, catagen and telogen - you don't need to know these - just know that when you first start removing hair you have hair on the surface, hair just underneath the surface and hair that is just starting to grow and there can be varying growth - so it will take 3 to 5 visits to get all the hairs growing on the same cycle and to the point where you can expect to be pretty much completely hair free after waxing. The first time you come we will get you as close to completely clean as possible, and while it should look clean after the first waxing sometimes people are disappointed if there is slight stubble or if it does not feel smooth - especially with legs. You have to be patient and return every 3 to 4 weeks for 3 to 5 visits and your diligence will pay off with smooth, hair-free skin that remains that way for 2 weeks or so. The hair will begin breaking through at week 3 and be ready to wax then or by week 4.
You also have to exfoliate, exfoliate, and exfoliate! Not often, but regularly. It is not a huge commitment of aftercare, but you do have to maintain a regular schedule, so the skin can adjust and you have open healthy follicles for the hairs to grow out of. Just 2 times a week is all that is necessary. Just check with your waxer for the products they suggest and if you do find you have problems consult with them about what to do to prevent them. I will give some more suggestions for that in a later blog. So, happy waxing and please call and any questions you have will be answered as quickly as possible. We look forward to helping you with your waxing and related services and can't wait to introduct the new services being added to the menu.
